This award is presented to a single \u201coutstanding direct or indirect care professional or volunteer within a LeadingAge Ohio member organization who enriches the lives of those they serve and exemplifies quality of care in the field of aging services,&#8221; according to LeadingAge. <a href=\"https:\/\/associationdatabase.com\/aws\/LAO\/pt\/sd\/news_article\/532676\/_BLANK\/ebulletin_layout_newsletter_details\/true?tcs-token=c5d672670ffda7c9af250c94151f65ab7cc8f66578ef1b7f03a4fc33f7a58f82\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The 2023 Award Winners<\/a> were announced in Columbus at the LeadingAge Ohio Annual Conference &amp; Trade Show.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Heather began her career at <a href=\"https:\/\/bethanylutheranvillage.org\/\">Bethany Village<\/a> 34 years ago in dietary services, becoming a nurse in 1998. Heather&#8217;s love for bedside nursing led to continual learning, training and supervising newly hired nursing staff at the Bethany Rehabilitation Center, and most recently, accepting a leadership role as Restorative MDS Nurse on the Memory Support unit.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">https:\/\/youtu.be\/IheejxWxdNQ?si=UWMwqa9y1fb-5Cbj<\/div>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Now with an office of her own, staff and residents \u201cmay find her small dog, Izzy, sitting in a decked out stroller complete with coordinated outfit, ready to stroll about on Heather\u2019s rounds, bringing a smile to anyone on the unit,\u201d notes Facility MDS Coordinator Jenita Sullenger, who nominated Heather and accepted the award Tuesday on her behalf. \u201cHeather has an uncanny ability to mitigate distressing moods or behaviors that residents [with dementia] can sometimes display.
